About the Mission
What is Inspiration5?
Inspiration5 is a civilian orbital spaceflight mission. Not a government mission. Not a billionaire's joyride. A crew of four humans from four continents, flying aboard a SpaceX Dragon capsule to an orbit of 590km above Earth — higher than the International Space Station at 400km — for three days. Target launch: 2030.
Who is behind it?
Markus Leutwyler, Commander — a pilot, builder, and photographer from Switzerland. The crew includes a pilot who is also the first poet in space, the first Nepali in space, a young woman from Africa whose seat is still waiting, and a telepresence robot built by Dejan Lauber — an ME/CFS patient who cannot go himself. Every seat earned. No seat bought.
What does "we took you with us" mean?
Dejan's robot — Botkins — will be physically present on the mission. Not digitally. Not symbolically. On the manifest, in the capsule, at the window. Through it, every person with ME/CFS who cannot leave their bed will be present. Every person the world called a hoax. Every person sitting in a darkened room. From 590km above Earth, we say what should have been said long ago: you were not forgotten.
How is it funded?
The mission is self-funded and sponsor-supported. Mission budget target: 50 million CHF. We are building this from the ground up — every partner, every contribution counts.
